Present Day
Maureen Peterson is the eldest of the Cook sisters, a role that often comes with its own set of expectations and responsibilities. To the outside world, Maureen's life appears enviable: she is happily married to a successful dentist, is the proud mother of three children, and has a successful career.
However, behind closed doors, it’s a different story. Beneath this veneer of perfection lies a challenging reality for her family. But Maureen’s relentless need to present a perfect ideal to the outside world begins to take its toll on her and her family.
1940
Laura Hadley, in her younger years, made a regrettable mistake that had far-reaching consequences, causing her older sister immense distress. The incident cast a long shadow over Laura’s life, branding her with a reputation she found hard to shake. The whispers and judgment from those around her served as a constant reminder of her past missteps, making it difficult for her to move forward.
When the war comes into their lives, circumstances force her to confront new challenges.
But can the love of a good man help her move forward, take charge of her life, and turn things around?
Decades apart in the small town of Lavender Bay, two women navigate struggles and challenges with perseverance and determination.

I found this book enjoyable, but a little disjointed. I kept waiting for " the whole story" about the St. Christopher and the great grandmother! I willread the next one, as I like the family story, and the character development of each new member, as it comes to life.
Waiting for the next book
It was so good to get back to get back to lavender bay and its wonderful characters. The storyline was brilliant and tastefully woven into the story. The characters are loyal, strong and great family values. I can't wait to read book 3. A must read. Enjoy
Michele Brouder has an interesting way of drawing the reader into her stories - with the interconnection of the characters, the age they live in & the story itself . Sometimes I wish I had a family tree for Lavender Bay's residents to really grasp the intersection of the stories of their lives. Really great series& looking forward to the next book!
This could be my own story, and I was definitely Maureen. I was so caught up in this series, that I was surprised that the second book had ended. I love that the author writes a clean pure story. No F words or explicit sex. I revisited my grandma's big Victorian house, and having a bunch of aunts involved in your daily lives was so much my family. I'm a history buff, and enjoyed the Rosie the rivetor part. My mom's family even packed up and moved to Bremerton, Washington to work in the shipyards to do their part for the war effort. I was right there experiencing the moment when Maureen realizes her family is not the perfect family she thought it was. As I said, been there, done that. Hats off to you Michele Brouder for writing books so real. You have a new fan! BES
